In the mid 1980s members of Pacific Orchestra performed in and around NYC under the name Brooklyn Burns. A recently unearthed cassette recorded live at the student union of Brooklyn College features the late, great Frankie Antico (keyboards), Ivan Rodriquez (drums), Tom Cucinotta (bass) and David Khan Johnson (vocals and guitar) . This audio artifact is the fragments of two obscure PO songs, John Gladstone’s moody “Love & Emotion” and Khan’s bubbly “Between Me and You,” bound together by some lively crowd chatter. It is a pleasure to hear Frankie’s masterful playing. His solos vary in style from Jackie Mittoo to Keith Emerson. We miss you Frankie. Tom and Ivan lay it down hard and steady, their formidable talents leaving their thumbprints on new variations of traditional reggae. Khan takes a rare guitar solo sounding eerily like Barry Melton from Country Joe and the Fish. Live from Flatbush and Nostrand Avenue. Burn, Brooklyn, Burn!
